ARRIVAL AT ROME .. OCTOBER 7-9, 2003

We decided to take this vacation in spite of our tour company filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. We were notified on the Tuesday, Sept. 30th that the tour had been canceled and we were scheduled to leave on Monday, October 6th. The airline tickets were already in our possession and Delta advised us that we could not be reimbursed for the cost of the tickets so rather than lose out on this part of our investment we decided we would try to put something together on our own. We made reservations for a hotel in Rome and Milan and also reserved a car from Hertz when we were to leave Rome. We had no idea of how things would go between these two points but all worked out well and we had an enjoyable experience.

Rome has a lot to offer the travel vacationer. So many things to see and so little time to see them all. We did get to The Coloseum, the Vatican and walked 320 steps to the top of St. Peter Cathederal dome. We also had an audience with Pope John Paul II on Wednesday, October 8th, which was quite interesting. The pictures will pretty much show you where we visited.

As usual I took quite a few pictures and have broken them down in small segments for a little easier viewing. Hope you enjoy them.
